(Day 5) In Lumbini

After a rest, we went to Lumbini. It means 'the lovely'. It was under the Himalaya foothill. The location is about 18 km west from Bhairahwa. Today also named as Sidhartha Nagar.

Lumbini was the birth place for Buddha. Queen Mahamaya was enrouted to her parent's home but when reached Lumbini, she gave birth to the lord Buddha in 623 BC.

Passed through the entrance, walked for a few minutes, we could see a new red paint building, inside there was a stone indicated the Buddha exact birth spot.

This was the 3rd time I visited Lumbuni. Oops, no more the old Mayadevi temple already. This area has many ruins of the stupas and temples. The surrounding also have many temples and monatries.

There was a sacred pool which called as Puskarni, where the Queen bathed for her new born child. The big and old bodhi tree was still standing there.

Huei Tsiang said before that the pool water was clear and bright as the mirror and the surface had many mixture of flowers.

King Asoka erected a pillar in Lumbini to show that Lumbini was the birth place of Buddha.

After visited the Buddha born places, we went to the nearest temple.

When we reached there, suddenly had no current, very dark but then they lighten up the candles, with the weak candles light, we were able to have more clear vision. Offerings were made over there. On the way, back to the buses, Many business stalls already started to light up the lamp and candle lights...couldn't see properly for the products they sell.
We went back to the Hotel Lumbini Nirvana to have a dinner and stayed overnight.
